The backpacks are packed, school schedules are set, Friday night lights are returning, and that unmistakable back-to-school energy is everywhere.
Summer may be winding down, but for the Class of 2027, something much bigger is just beginning:
Senior year.
This is the year you’ve been waiting for. There will be homecoming, football games, performances, competitions, college applications, acceptance letters, prom, graduation — and plenty of moments you probably can’t even anticipate yet.
For parents, it can be hard to believe this year is already here. After years of first days of school, suddenly you’re looking at one of the last.
At Stephen Dey Signature Portraits, I believe this milestone deserves more than a quick senior picture. Your senior portrait experience should celebrate who you are right now, everything that brought you here, and the exciting future ahead.
And with summer transitioning into fall, now is one of my favorite times for Class of 2027 senior portraits in Charlotte, NC.
Every year, I remind parents and seniors of the same thing: don't wait for spring to start thinking about senior portraits.
Senior year gets busy quickly.
School, sports, college visits, applications, extracurricular activities, work, homecoming, holidays, and family commitments can make the months disappear. Before you know it, graduation announcements are arriving and caps and gowns are being ordered.
Scheduling your Class of 2027 senior portrait session during late summer or fall gives us the opportunity to slow things down and create something intentional.
More importantly, it allows us to capture your senior at the beginning of this incredible year — full of anticipation, confidence, personality, and possibility.
Every senior is different — and their portraits should reflect that.
At Stephen Dey Signature Portraits, I create custom senior portrait sessions in Charlotte designed around your senior’s personality, interests, and style.
Whether your senior prefers:
I work closely with each family to design an experience that feels personal and authentic.
This is not a one-size-fits-all session.
It’s a one-of-a-kind experience.
Back-to-school shopping also makes this a great time to start thinking about senior portrait clothing.
I generally recommend bringing different looks so we can create variety throughout your session. Think about outfits that represent different sides of your personality — perhaps something casual, something more polished, and something connected to an activity or interest.
Most importantly, choose clothing that makes you feel confident and still feels like you.
I've created a complete resource to help seniors and parents make those decisions in my Dressing for Success: Senior Portrait Tips Every High School Senior Should Know guide.
Planning ahead makes a tremendous difference, and we'll also discuss wardrobe during your design consultation.
One thing I encourage parents to remember is that these portraits aren't only for your senior.
They're for you, too.
A year from now, life may look very different. Your senior may be away at college, beginning a career, serving our country, or pursuing an entirely new adventure.
That's why I don't believe your favorite senior portraits should disappear into a phone or digital folder.
At Stephen Dey Signature Portraits, I create finished artwork designed to be enjoyed in your home. That can include Masterpiece Portraits, custom wall art, heirloom albums, and handcrafted memory boxes that tell the story of senior year.
Our custom-designed senior albums are especially meaningful because they allow families to preserve many sides of their senior — not simply one favorite image.
Years from now, those portraits will mean something different than they do today.
They'll remind you exactly who your son or daughter was at 17 or 18, standing at the beginning of a whole new life.
The first-day-of-school pictures have been taken, the hallways are busy again, fall activities are beginning, and the countdown to graduation has officially started.
Class of 2027, this is your year.
At Stephen Dey Signature Portraits, I’m proud to create personalized Class of 2027 senior portraits throughout Charlotte, South Charlotte, Ballantyne, Myers Park, Dilworth, Lake Norman, and surrounding communities.

After more than 38 years of photographing seniors and families, I know just how quickly senior year passes. Don’t wait until graduation is right around the corner to realize this chapter has slipped by.
Let’s celebrate your personality, accomplishments, passions, and everything that makes your story uniquely yours. And parents, let’s preserve the person standing in front of you today — because this time next year, they may already be beginning their next adventure.
Let’s make senior year unforgettable.
